We’ve moved from:
I still remember the days when we had to write every single line of code ourselves.
Want a button? Write the HTML. Make it pretty with CSS. Wire up the logic in JS. Debug endlessly. That was the Long Code era. It taught us discipline, but it was slow and painful.
Then came Frameworks. Finally, some help! We had rails to run on. Less grunt work, more problem-solving.
Next, Low-code showed up.We started building faster, connecting tools, automating workflows. The barrier to entry lowered.
No-code took it even further. Now, marketers, designers even ops folks could build without waiting on dev cycles. Empowerment everywhere.
But then something shifted. It wasn’t just about building faster. It became about how it feels. The Vibe era. Design, emotion, user delight and suddenly, vibes mattered as much as features.
And now?
We’re stepping into something wild: the Agentic era. AI isn’t just helping us. It’s starting to build for us. We say what we want. The system figures out how to make it happen.
The point to note that each phase hasn’t replaced the last. They’ve stacked. Layer by layer. Making software creation more human, more intuitive, more about what matter. At the same time we’re not just “sole” makers and machines are not “sole” takers anymore. There is a well synchronise handshaking happening between human and machines to co-orchestrate the future of software. Neural Code might be next, where you have think, rest machine will do the rest.
